What is CBL?

CBL is an independent creative brand built around capturing emotions and moments. Photography, film-making, storytelling, music, culture, and the people behind it all who bust their ass to get on the front page. CBL magazine exists for the stories worth telling. The ideas that deserve more than just a few seconds on someone's feed.

This isn't about chasing every trend or repeating the same entertainment news you can find everywhere else, CBL was created in an attempt to look deeper.

Some of the most interesting artists aren't the ones with millions of followers. They're playing small venues, recording in their "home studios", going out and filming projects with their friends, and building something meaningful without waiting for permission.

These are the people CBL wants to document.

Through our interviews, photos, articles, our podcast, and our creator spotlight, CBL delves deeper into what someone makes. We want to understand where their ideas come from, what what inspires them, and what keeps them creating when nobody's watching. The completed work only tells part of the story

I also want to point out the somewhat bitter irony in the fact that i say "we" in reference to the articles. I'm Landen Doyle, the creator of CBL. As you could probably guess, CBL stood for "Created By Landen" and that still remains as my photography branding. but i want CBL to be more than just me. this became a "we" project when i reached out to a life long friend of mine, Lane McCollum behind the music of Teddy Diary and Schoolyard Sacrifice, and asked him if he wanted to form a partnership and feature his podcast "Pillowcast" on the magazine. He agreed and that was in some way, the first recruitment of CBL

So, what is CBL now? I wanted to expand more. its not just Landen anymore, i want this to be a community project. so CBL was rebranded to "Culture Built Loud." It's a representation of the scene i came up in, and the voice that i want CBL to have.

CBL wasn't made to stay inside one category. We want our stories to take you inside a crowded local show, or the most upcoming independent film, or an overlooked photographer. Now with that being said i want to preface that it might not be exclusively that. Lane and I both love all kinds of music so we plan to talk about some of the bigger things in terms of new releases in both music and film that might be bigger in scale.

We strive to be the fuel for the creative spark people have. The subjects may change, but the purpose will always be the same. Looking beneath the surface and finding what matters.

As you can tell, CBL was created entirely independently, meaning there's no big corporation backing us or deciding which stories are and aren't important enough to tell. This freedom allows us to pay attention to smaller artists, local events, and creative people and ideas that might otherwise be overlooked.

CBL is still growing, which is what makes this so exciting for us. New interviews will be recorded, new artists will be discovered, me and Lane will continue dropping new pillowcast episodes regularly here on the site.
